Delia Stone is an award winning artist, currently residing in Pensacola, FL. She has been working wire for over 15 years and enjoys the process of using cold connections to create unique jewelry. Delia uses ancient Phonecian, Egyptian and Peruvian techniques in her work, as well as many modern techniques. "Contrary to popular misconception, wire work is indeed an art - it's just been a lost art for thousands of years and is finally re-emerging to take it's place once again." Like all artists, Delia draws a lot of her inspiration from other artist. Her primary influences are Eni Oken, Dana Kellen, Magdalena and Lisa Claxton. " I consider these ladies to be some of the most talented artist of the day whose work continually feeds my fires of inspiration. They are my Dali, Escher and Monet."
Delia's pieces tend to convey thoughts of warm summer nights, watery depths, the comforts of home, nostalgia, bohemia and so on. She insists that to be an artist, one only needs to take their work seriously and understand the value of bringing a vision to life.
Delia enjoys giving others the one thing she didn't have starting out as an artist- hands on instruction. "Teaching is as much fun as creating for me" says Delia. She offers instruction for all levels on a group or individual basis. She has taught workshops in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and North Carolina. "What it boils down to for me, is simply doing what you love. This is my passion and through teaching I am able to share my passion with others. There is no greater gift than that."
Delia was recently declared 'one of Pensacola's top jewelry artists'. "I was very flattered. What a wonderful compliment that was. But I'm not going to let it go to my head," she laughs. "I'm going to continue to do what I love and keep in mind that there's still much room for me to grow as an artist ... that's what keeps it fresh and interesting for me."
